Fred Lee “Peanut” Thomas, a beloved son of the late Jessie and Ida Bell Thomas, was born on November 2, 1949, in Eufaula, Alabama. He devoted his life to Christ at a young age and was a member of New Mt Zion AME Church. He departed this life on February 24, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 76. Fred was a graduate of the TV McCoo High School class of 1967 in Eufaula, Alabama. After high school he served his country by joining the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Army, he enrolled in Spark Tech Community College where he earned a technical degree in carpentry.
Fred was a master craftsman and an expert carpenter whose hands built more than structures they built trust, stability, and legacy. As the owner of Fred Thomas Construction, he served his community with skill, integrity, and pride. His work can still be seen throughout the city, which is a lasting testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. He often extended his talents beyond business, generously helping others without charge, believing that service was just as important as success.
He loved fishing and was known as an expert fisherman, approaching it with patience and precision. He also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, a good game of dominoes, a round of solitaire, and watching sports. A devoted Alabama fan, he never missed a chance to cheer on the Crimson Tide.
Whether he was casting a line, watching the game, or enjoying time with loved ones, he appreciated the moments that brought people together. Whether working with his hands or relaxing with family and friends, he carried himself with steady strength, warmth, and a presence that left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Preceding him in death are brothers, David, Jessie, Clarence, Thomas and sisters, Mildred and Louis. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved and devoted children: Donnell (Ann) Smith-Eufaula, AL and Sakeitha Thomas-Birmingham, AL; sister: Anna Hollins; two grandchildren: La’dasia Thomas and Ly’tavious Harris of Birmingham, AL; one great grandson: Azai Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his devoted best friends Roosevelt Strong, Harvey Battle, and Robert “Chunk” Denson.
